Wordless Wednesday: No Worries

Despite the fact it is Wordless Wednesday, I want to thank my readers for their kind and concerned words regarding my post yesterday. I did not mean to cause any alarm but my head was reeling and I needed some time to research and wrap my mind around a few things.

My son has retractile testes, we were told at the doctor visit. This means simply that his testes lie not in his scrotum but in the groin area. I mistook some of the information that the doctor (a wonderful, patient, caring man) gave us and got online with it. That was a mistake. Within minutes, I had diagnosed my son with a more serious form of this condition and envisioned him getting testicular cancer and other horrific things. In short, Toni went overboard and freaked. completely. out. (I am told this is a fairly typical occurrence.)

My wonderful husband tried to calm me. But, being an internet junkie, I couldn't be talked off the ledge until we phoned the doc today and he gave me good, solid AMA advice and then called Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus to double check his own action plan. (I told you a great doctor!)

Our plan, approved by the head of Urology at Children's and me, is wait and see. Hopefully, it will resolve itself but, if not, there will be a surgery in the future. The dangers I read about are for a more serious condition where the testes lie in the abdomen and not the groin.

So, from the depths of this drama queen's heart, thank you all for your caring and concern! I puffy heart you all. Big. Time.

I'd be concerned too and I'd do the same self-diagnosing cyber-chondria surfing you did too. I think that condition can resolve it self with time, right?

You're on top of it and THAT makes all the difference. That conqueror is SO CUTE.

I know someone, if I identify him he will kill me when he gets home from work :), who had the same issue as a child and it completely self-resolved.

I hope you have a peaceful Wednesday!

Oh my, don't go on the cyber diagnosis train...It never leads anywhere good. Let's hope it all resolves. He is so darn cute!

Aw, I love how he looks in his fuzzy little p.j's!

I just read your post from yesterday, too. I am the (unofficial) Queen of Googling medical stuff. Because the one time I didn't Google? My little one ended up in the hospital on IV antibiotics. There's nothing wrong with trying to arm yourself with a little information, as long as you have a lovely doctor to give perspective. It sounds like you do. Hope all goes well.

my nephew has that. they are going to watch it for a while and then, if worse comes to worse, the doctors can bring the testes down, surgically! my nephew is 3. he is super little...they think that could be the reason. it can cause growth problems. but, it is fixable!!!
he's a beautiful little guy!
btw...don't research ANYTHING online. i've been having some stomach issues, which i just posted about...and i googled...google isn't helpful. all is does is have you start planning a funeral!
take care. he'll be fine!

I know exactly how you feel, about getting on the Internet and researching a condition and then learning all of the horrible truths, side-effects, etc. It's completely normal to worry and fret over what you read. Just remember, you'll most likely have to take what you read with a grain of salt - every case is different and requires different analysis. I'm glad your doctor was able to reassure you. Your son will be fine, believe it! *smile*

And what a CUTE son, he is!

I totally don't blame you for wanting to research what's out there, I do it too. Lets just hope that your little man will be just fine all on his own! Great pics this week, too cute!

I too tend to get online and self diagnosis things..nasty habit...I am so glad that the Conqueror has a good chance of having it resolve itself....I have heard of that before...and just like Jenni said, that person's resolved itself as well....sounds like you have a great doctor with great medical advice...listen to him, stay away from the medical sites...just kidding....glad you got the information you needed and cross referenced with the doc...Little man is going to be fine...I just want to smooch them chubby little cheeks...he is precious!

I'm glad to hear that it doesn't sound so worrisome and that you are just going to wait and see - that is a relief, right? I'm sorry you and the baby are having to go through this - it will work out! Adorable picture Toni - take care and I'll see you soon. Kellan

Sounds like you've got a great handle of it! He'll be ok, just a bump in the road.

My son has penis issues, too. Don't worry. These things do work themselves out. Although, when they told me they might need to re-circ I flipped out the way you did!
