Haikuing Tantrums

Nearly sixteen months
Temper tantrums have arrived
Loud screaming, crying

Hitting began, too
Seems a switch thrown: bad to worse
What's a mom to do?

I completely understand. My 17 month old threw a huge fit while we were out yesterday, throwing himself on the floor and clonking his head on a display. Nice. Fun times. :)

When in doubt: WINE.

Once again I share your pain. Hold me. Further proof we need a playdate like yesterday. :)

I found 16-18 VERY tough. Then, the vocabulary kicked in & he could tell me the problem. I promise it gets better

Oh yeah, we've gone through that, too, and round two will start in a few months, I'm sure.

Good luck to you in these trying times. :)

You might be interested in book I co-authored with Jennifer Brown through Parenting Press called, "What Angry Kids Need: Parenting Your Angry Child Without Going Mad". You don't have to have a child with a particular anger "problem" to benefit from the book, which has help on how to help your child build his feelings vocabulary, self-soothe, and problem-solve. There is also support for parents on how to use time out or holding positively and safely, and how to deal with a child when they become physically out of control. There is also a chapter on self-care for parents, and one to help parents decide when to reach out for more help. Good luck! Your issues sounds very normal, but your positive responses will certainly help your child become emotionally mature over time.

Um hide? And pray is passes soon? Tantrums are horrible at this stage, the ones my 17 month throughs are much worse than the 3 year olds

Tantrums are from the devil himself! Nothing to it except to stay calm and weather the storm. Oh, and tequila helps. For you, not him.
