What a Mess!

Hand lotion plus boy
Not a good combination
How do you not laugh?

These are photos of Liam after he managed to open a hand lotion up and fling it all over himself and my armoire. He was alone for about 4 minutes while I read blogs checked the online news and made a terrible mess all over the furniture, floor and his freshly bathed body. That child is always wreaking havoc! Of course, I ran for the camera as my daughter stood aside and cackled so what lesson did we teach him?

This boy may be the death of me yet....

On another note, Happy Independence Day!

Haiku: In My Husband's Words

I love my wife, kids
but I love my Wii the most
Don't tell them that, though

I like to eat wings
Watch sci-fi and horror fims
Unbutton my pants

I leave my socks on
the floor, The toilet lid up
I belch and fart, too

I snore loudly, yes
That is what ear plugs are for
Deal with it, honey

My kids are fun toys
Disciplining not for me
Let my wife do it

I start many pro-
jects but don't finish them all
She'll complain anyway

My husband isn't really as bad as I have portrayed but...these are fairly accurate portrayals of him (sorry, honey!).

Go visit here and here for more Haiku fun!

Haikuing Summer TV

Lost, The Office, House
Bye Sawyer, Dwight, Foreman
Enjoy your time off

I will have to watch
more Alton Brown, TLC
Summer TV sucks!

Not that I am a complete TV junkie (ahem!) or anything but, seriously, what am I gonna watch? Sure The Closer and Saving Grace are great but what about the rest of the week? And when do they even start? My DVR may just quit from lack of use.... *sigh*

So, what are you gonna watch after the season finales are over?

Haiku Baby Hair

Check out this boy's hair!
Sticking straight up, straggly, long
Time for first haircut

Why do I feel so
sad? Another goodbye to
baby days, my last

No chullets here but still time for a first haircut, nonetheless. My neighbor, a stylist, has been recommending it for a few months but I ignored her until this week. The hair? Well, it is getting crazy and just looks badly. *sigh* With The Conqueror being more than likely my last, this is another milestone that I was dreading; another farewell to babyhood. I relished all of these little milestones with my daughter; looked forward to them. Not this time around; although the recent sleeping through the night has been wonderful....

Haiku: Jumble

Cousins and best buds
Dance, softball, close like sisters
Will it remain so?

Sixteen months has hit
Now he hits, BITES, hollers
What am I to do?

This week was hairy
Busy with mid-terms, projects
Away from blogging

Thank God it is Friday. I have had the longest of weeks! The boy is becoming an ever increasing pain in my...side. The biting is causing trouble at the sitter's house and here. I am afraid to take him anywhere for fear he will take a chunk out of another child. Nice, huh?

So sorry, friends, that I have been so absent here and at your places but school and real life beckoned this week. Spring is busy with softball, extra dance practices and pictures and my own long college career. Now, my husband is running solo at work because the other pharmacist quit (let's all pray to the gods that this guy, who SLEEPS with the help, gets his). Ahh, what a week!

So, what's new with you?

Haiku: Thanks, Friend

Tax Swap gift from Wright
Shea butter lotion, cd,
Socks that moisturize!

What a fun surprise
"Celebration" of tax day
Cool present, new friend

It was a fun experience to swap gifts in honor of April 15th. I got the nicest box of goodies from Wright wrapped in the loveliest colors. It was a welcome ray of sunshine on a day when I needed it. The lotion is awesome and the socks? Divine! The cd was made just! for! me! and is Wright's favorite Carla Bruni and I! Love! It!

Thanks, Wright, for a thoughtful and lovely gift!

Haikuing Tantrums

Nearly sixteen months
Temper tantrums have arrived
Loud screaming, crying

Hitting began, too
Seems a switch thrown: bad to worse
What's a mom to do?

Shanghaied by Ants!

Ants came marching in
And took over my kitchen
Pesky devils, ick

They hit pay dirt here
Goldfish crackers, cereal
Scattered here and there

Now forced to clean up
All the messes, spills on the floor
Take away their food

I don't like to clean
Hate to do floors, dust and scrub
Detestable ANTS!

What the Haiku?!

Illness struck me down
Also took a toll on house
Laundry multiplied

Toilets are icky
Floor covered in dirt, debris
Must clean; can't torch it

Haiku-versary

A decade ago
Dressed in champagne silk, black tux
We pledged our love

This love has blossomed,
Grown with each passing challenge
Knit us together

We are connected
by law, God's eyes, our children
For now, forever

Haiku- Achoo

The illness has hit
Sneezing, sniffling, coughing
But no vomiting! (:

Found some relief, though
Puffs with Vicks are heavenly
So glad we found them!

Leave a trace of Vicks
With each wipe; I love that smell
Helps with stuffiness

Husband says creepy
Like sleeping with his granny!
Too bad, so sad, dude!

Haiku Friday

In-laws strike again
Sent box of junk to my kids
For Valentine's Day

Bath mitts, candy hearts
Twenty-four dollars to ship
Stuff worth six dollars

Sent it Express Mail
Signature required, yes
More money than sense

I will not listen
To whining of being poor
Following this stunt

Not that we see them
The boy was only two weeks
At the last visit

"Far away Grandma
and Grandpa" they sign the cards
Far away, my ass

They live one hundred
miles from us, not Egypt
Cry me a river

Sorry for the biting tone of this post. I had been lulled into a sense of calm in January when the MIL was radio silent and only sent stupid letters in the mail detailing the weather. I knew something was coming, what with Valentine's Day and all. I just wasn't expecting another box o' crap shipped Express Mail. They do that to inconvenience us because we usually have to go the post office to pick up signature required items. Asshats.

Haiku Friday: Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels all around
Under couch, tables and feet
A genderless toy

They were hers at first
Something they do together
Love and fun on wheels

For more Haiku fun, go here.

(Yes, I know he is too little to play with them alone- small parts and all. He is closely supervised, I assure you.)

Haiku Friday: Close Call

Wednesday, husband home
Boy is napping, girl at school
"Adult time"- wink, wink

My father arrives
Lets self in and shouts "hello!"
Bedroom door open

We were busy, 'kay?
Didn't hear him calling, nope
Thankfully he left.

Almost caught in act
Been married a decade but
Dads shouldn't see THAT!

So glad he didn't
Come looking for me. Oh God!
Will lock door next time...

Well, I think you get the gist of what almost happened but I wanted to add that our home is ranch style and the master suite is closest to the main living areas. This was a very close call and I think Dad knows something was up because Mom called to see what we were doing. Laundry, I said, of course!

Haiku Friday

Mutating laundry
Sort, wash, fold, put away
More to do again?

Washer is a thief
Socks are put in two by two
Return as orphans

***************
Tough week for haiku
No excitement in my life
This will have to do

Haiku Friday: Paczki

Poonch-key has arrived
A Polish treat before Lent
Jelly-filled doughnut

I'm not Catholic
But will eat the pastry, sure
Teeth aching sweetness

Here are more Haiku Friday posts!

Haiku Friday

Rain and thunderstorms
Blowing wind; howling, scary
No sleep for mommy

I hated storms, too
Used to sleep with little bro
How to calm these fears?

Haiku Friday: The Stroke of 2008

Scene set: New Year's Day
Grandpa's girlfriend no one likes
Crude, rude and mouthy

Argument ensues
I silently wish her dead
She stands and STROKE hits

I didn't mean it!
Now paralyzed; little hope
Careful what you wish...

Couldn't make this up
Scout's honor, it's the truth! Yep!
Can you believe it?

It is true; I wished my grandfather's not very nice lady friend to die and she almost did within an hour- right in front of most of my family! I, of course, didn't really wish her dead, just to disappear from my sight because of her not very nice-ness. Unfortunately, she is not expected to have a meaningful recovery, if any at all. (It was discovered that she wasn't taking her meds correctly.)

The even more ironic part is we had spent the last few hours talking about nursing homes and assisted care facilities and the way patients are treated there. She had declared that she wasn't ever going to take care of anyone (i.e. my grandfather) and didn't need anyone to care for her. She is (was?) a difficult person to like: bitter, racist, bigoted, unhappy and just plain mean. We never understood why my gramps liked her.

On a lighter note, my mom is kind of angry that the old bird tried to ruin yet another of our family gatherings. She would do anything to get attention.... apparently.
